The West Bay, A Love Letter

Adriene Busch is a contemporary weaver based in San Mateo, California, where she has lived with her wife for the past nine years. She has worked in various modes of fiber art since 2016, eventually committing fully to tapestry weaving. She is deliberate in her selection of materials, using color and texture to encapsulate particular characteristics of her surroundings and other inspiring objects or ideas.

As a tapestry weaver, she enjoys the many choices that working with fiber allows; in her pieces, color, texture, and composition interplay to create a balance between bold and neutral, flat and three dimensional. Regardless of the subject matter, Adriene deftly interprets her subjects through her unique artistic lens.

The West Bay: A Love Letter

The natural beauty that inspired this collection was mainly found on walks through my neighborhood near the Bay in San Mateo. The collection is not inspired by suburbia or intended to persuade the viewer that beauty can be found anywhere; rather, this collection is proclaiming the absolute beauty of the Peninsula, in all its unique and inspiring features. Each piece celebrates things I see daily that bring me joy and make me deeply grateful to live where I do, from the grassy Bay marshlands down the street to the breathtaking wave of fog that I get to watch descend over the mountains from my kitchen window every evening. With this collection, I aim to give the Peninsula the love it surely deserves.
